A solitary cross stands on a rocky hilltop at sunrise, casting a long shadow. The sky glows with pink and orange hues, symbolizing hope and sacrifice, with distant mountains enhancing the serene atmosphere.

Daily Reflections: The Cost of Discipleship

Scott O’Neill

Reading Overview:

Today's readings explore the themes of loss, sacrifice, and the demands of discipleship. Ezekiel is commanded to refrain from mourning his wife’s death as a sign to Israel of their impending judgment. In the Gospel, Jesus challenges a rich young man to sell his possessions and follow Him, highlighting the difficulty of fully surrendering to God's will.

Reflection:

True discipleship often requires painful sacrifices. Whether it’s letting go of material possessions or enduring personal loss, following Christ means putting God’s will above all else. This can be a challenging path, but it leads to eternal life.

Application:

Consider what holds you back from fully following Christ. Is it material wealth, comfort, or fear of loss? Reflect on how you can prioritize God’s will in your daily decisions, even when it’s difficult.

Prayer:

Lord, give me the strength to let go of anything that keeps me from fully following You. Help me to trust in Your plan, even when the path is hard. Amen.
