Nathanael, also known as Bartholomew, sits thoughtfully under a fig tree, illuminated by a gentle divine light. The peaceful scene features lush greenery and a distant view of Jerusalem, symbolizing faith and revelation.

Daily Reflections: Seeing Beyond Prejudice

Scott O’Neill

Reading Overview:

Today’s readings focus on the vision of the New Jerusalem in Revelation, where the names of the twelve Apostles are inscribed on the city’s foundation. The Gospel recounts Nathanael’s initial skepticism about Jesus, which turns to faith when Jesus reveals his knowledge of him.

Reflection:

These readings invite us to move beyond our prejudices and to recognize the divine truth that may come from unexpected places. Just as Nathanael was surprised by Jesus, we too might find God’s presence in the least likely of people or circumstances.

Application:

When you encounter skepticism or doubt, especially regarding others' potential, remember to approach with an open heart and mind. God often works through the unexpected.

Prayer:

Lord, open my eyes to see your presence in places I least expect. Remove my prejudices and help me to embrace your truth, no matter where it comes from. Amen.
