Jesus stands in a boat with Simon Peter, directing him to cast his net into deep waters. The net is full of fish, symbolizing abundance, while Peter kneels in humility. Heavenly light represents divine wisdom and guidance.

Daily Reflections: Called to Be Fishers of Men

Scott O’Neill
Reading Overview:
Today’s readings emphasize humility and divine wisdom. St. Paul cautions against worldly wisdom, urging us to rely on God’s wisdom. In the Gospel, Jesus calls Simon Peter to lower his nets in deep water, resulting in a miraculous catch. This leads to Peter’s realization of his unworthiness, and Jesus’ call for him to become a “fisher of men.”

Reflection:
The readings remind us that true wisdom comes from God, not from the world. Peter’s obedience to Jesus' command, despite his doubts, led to an abundant blessing. We, too, are called to trust in God’s guidance, even when it defies our understanding.

Application:
Consider areas in your life where you need to trust God more deeply, even if it seems illogical by worldly standards. Embrace humility and seek God’s wisdom, knowing that He can bring forth abundance where we see none.

Prayer:
Lord, grant us the humility to seek Your wisdom over the world’s. Help us to trust in Your guidance, even when it challenges our understanding. May we become fishers of men, drawing others to Your truth. Amen.
